31.8 Viewing Discussion Threads
Viewing Inline
Viewing Inline refers to one of the two viewing options available for discussion threads. When you select the inline view, the discussion thread is displayed in a continuous single-column format where all posts and replies appear in a linear sequence.
- Open Discussions:
In your course navigation, click on the "Discussions" link. - Open Discussion:
Click the title of the discussion you want to view. - Activate Inline:
Click on the "View Inline" button to enable the inline view. - Expand/Collapse Threads:
You can collapse and expand the discussion threads by clicking the "Expand Threads" and "Collapse Threads" buttons. When threads are collapsed, indicators will show the number of unread and total replies. - View Replies Inline:
To expand the discussion thread replies inline, click the "# of replies" link. This will show both read and unread replies. - Threaded Replies Options:
Click the "Options" icon to mark replies as read/unread, return to the topic, quote the reply, or report the reply.
Viewing Splitscreen
The Split-screen view allows users to see the original post on one side and it's replies on the other side, facilitating easier navigation and reference between the initial posts and subsequent replies. User can toggle between these two viewing options by selecting either "View Split Screen" or "View Inline" at the top of the screen.
- Open Discussions:
In your course navigation, click on the "Discussions" link. - Open Discussion:
Click the title of the discussion you want to view. - Activate Split-Screen:
Click the "View Split Screen" button to enable the split-screen view. - Expand/Collapse Sidebar:
You can collapse and expand the discussion thread replies sidebar. When collapsed, indicators will show the number of unread and total replies. - View Replies in Sidebar:
To expand the discussion thread replies sidebar, click the "# of replies" link. This will show both read and unread replies. - Threaded Replies Options:
Click the "Options" icon to mark replies as read/unread, return to the topic, quote the reply, or report the reply. To collapse the sidebar, click the "Close" icon
