Captioning Basics Summary

Closed-Captioning Basics; self-paced micro-course

Congratulations!

Thank you for your efforts in creating an accessible learning environment!

In this section, you were introduced to the general captioning workflow, learned the basics of captioning, and can prioritize which videos need to be captioned first.

Can You...

  • Identify if a video has accurate and properly formatted closed captions?
  • Identify which closed-captioning platforms are used based on video ownership?

Before you continue, make sure you answer the questions above! If you need additional support on any of the bullet points above, please review this module.

Do you have local resources available?

Although this course can help you determine a captioning workflow for your videos, and guide you step by step, it might also be helpful to check-in with your school's local accessibility resources and support. You may have access to local captioning support and/or resources you can use.

Remember that all California Community College faculty have access to free captioning support for instructional content through 3C Media Solutions and the Distance Education Captioning & Transcription (DECT) Grant Links to an external site..  Projects that qualify for DECT funding are eligible for either captioning or audio description.
