The Next Accessibility Principles
LIST served as an excellent acronym for the first set of accessibility principles. The next acronym is nonsensical, but can still be helpful.
- Color = Color Contrast & Color Meaning
- CAT = Captions, Audio Description, Transcript
Color is broken into two topics: Color contrast and color used to determine meaning.
CAT refers to videos that require captioning and audio description, or audio files that need an accompanying transcript. Every medium should provide an alternative format to empower all students to be independent in navigating and accessing your course content.
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
- Use the Canvas Accessibility Checker to determine and choose accessible text colors and background color combinations.
- Use other visual cues besides color to relay meaning.
- Provide an alternate format strategy for videos and audio files.
