Double Check Existing Pages!
If you are migrating a course to Canvas from another course management system, or if you are importing content from one class to another, or from one term to another, you may have existing HTML pages already in your course. Hopefully, after working through this module, you are asking yourself if these pages are accessible!
It's important to check your existing pages to ensure each meets accessibility standards. There are tools that you can use to check a web page, but it is easiest to check content in your course by entering Edit mode. Select Edit, then move your cursor through your document to ensure that each element in your page has been formatted correctly. Remember to check that:
- blocks of text are chunked into easily digestible sections;
- headings are real headings made using paragraph styles, and not just a bigger, bold font;
- bulleted or numbered lists are formatted with the list tool;
- hyperlinks are meaningful text;
- images have appropriate alternative text;
- color contrast ratios meet standards.
