Welcome!
We're going to introduce you to the idea of "usability" in course design, and show you simple tools--right in Canvas--that make it easy to design user-friendly pages (and discussions, assignments and quizzes too.)
Let's clarify two important terms first. In this case, usability refers to the ease of use your students experience within your course; accessibility refers to specific formatting to ensure students with visual, hearing, cognitive, or mobility differences can access your content. Accessibility could be considered a sub-set of usability.
Because usability and accessibility go hand-in-hand, we'll be exploring concepts and techniques for making your course both technically accessible and also more usable for all your students.
Please see the Syllabus for course information, time commitment, and a list of FAQs.
Course Activity:
Practice What You Learn!
This micro-course will build on the accessibility techniques you learn. When you see the Canvas Accessibility icon to the left, you will be given an opportunity to apply what you've learned. You will need to download the Canvas Course Canvas Accessibility Demo Activity Set to complete your hands-on activities.
Before downloading the Canvas Accessibility Demo Activity Set
Download Canvas Accessibility Demo Activity Set, please visit the Syllabus in the left-hand menu, and read, "Do I need to buy a textbook/course materials?"
