Reflecting on This Week of Teaching
This activity invites you to pause and reflect on a single class session or week of teaching/service. You might choose a moment that stood out, a challenge you faced, or something new you tried. Regular reflection helps us stay responsive and intentional in our teaching/service. There are no right or wrong answers here. This reflection is about noticing, learning, and growing in your own way.
Setting the Stage for Reflection
Reflection is easiest when we give ourselves time and space to slow down. Before you begin, consider doing something small to help shift into a reflective mindset:
- Step away from your inbox or grading for a few minutes
- Take a short walk or stretch break
- Play calming music or dim the lights
- Take a deep breath and remind yourself: this is for you
Time Commitment
Approximately 30 minutes
Flex Credit
Each weekly reflection you submit counts as 0.5 hours of Flex credit. You may submit up to 8 reflections total (4 hours maximum).
The ideal time to begin this weekly reflection activity is at the start or midpoint of the semester, so that you can space your reflections out over time. This assignment is designed to support ongoing, real-time reflection on your teaching/service as the semester unfolds.
If you are at the end of the semester and looking to complete a Flex activity, we encourage you to explore the semester-long reflection option instead. That activity is designed to help you look back on the full semester, analyze course-level data, and consider one meaningful change to carry forward. It offers 3 hours of Flex credit and may be a better fit for your timing.
Consider What the Data Tells You
You are welcome to include informal or formal data to support your reflection. This does not need to be technical or time-consuming. A few quick observations can go a long way. You might consider:
- How many students participated this week (in discussion, assignments, or in class)?
- What did exit tickets, surveys, or student comments reveal?
- What questions were asked by more than one student?
- How did students perform on assignments or quizzes?
- Did you notice any shifts in engagement, questions, or patterns of behavior?
Even small pieces of information can help you notice trends and adjust intentionally.
Choose Your Format
You can submit your reflection in one of the following formats:
- Written Response
- Audio Recording
- Video Recording
- Upload a Reflection Log Page from your own journal or planner (PDF, Word, or image of a handwritten page)
Choose Your Prompt

Option A: After a Class Session
- What went well today?
- What felt challenging or off?
- What would you do differently if you taught this session again?
Option B: End of the Week
- What did students seem to connect with this week?
- What questions or struggles came up?
- What do you want to try or adjust next week?
Option C: Freestyle Reflection
- Share anything that stood out for you as a teacher this week.
- This could be a moment of growth, a mistake you learned from, a shift in energy, or a student interaction worth remembering.
