Captioning Others' YouTube Videos

In this module we're focusing on captioning our own YouTube videos. This is possible to do with videos that are ours because we have an "Edit Video" button for those in YouTube. But let's say you want to add captions to a YouTube video that isn't yours. Since you don't own copyright for videos that you didn't create, and since the video isn't in your own video manager, you can't use the captioning tools described in the previous section. In this case, however, you would still be able to provide accurate captions for these videos without violating copyright using a tool called Amara

Amara

Amara is a free, web-based, crowd-sourcing captioning tool available at: http://www.amara.org Links to an external site..  It allows users to overlay a caption track onto a YouTube video, thus not altering the video and not infringing on copyright. Here’s a tutorial showing How to Caption YouTube Videos Using Amara.
