About CCC OEI OER-enabled Canvas course shells in collaboration with OpenStax

The CCC OEI OER-Enabled Canvas Course Shells were produced by and aligned with the California Community Colleges Online Education Initiative's Course Design Rubric. The shell may be used for online, hybrid, &/or face-to-face classes. The shell is available for all faculty using Canvas, not just those faculty in the CCC system.

The team producing this shell includes me, Helen Graves, Cyrus Helf, Nicole Woolley & Barbara Illowsky. 

Faculty have told us it's difficult to switch to an OER because it's like redesigning a whole new course. We've heard you, and we've created these shells you can adapt. It has:

• accessibility baked into the shell & additional accessibility support 
• several welcome pages to greet your students you can choose from
• places for you to edit your course information
• instructor support on how to use the sample shell, how to combine Canvas Course Commons content and/or your existing content to the shell

Please note that OEI is not endorsing OpenStax. Barbara Illowsky just happened to have an existing partnership with OpenStax, and in an effort to provide an equitable learning environment for students, we partnered up with OpenStax to create these awesome shells you can adapt and make your own.
