Canvas LMS
Canvas
Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) that we use at our District and across the California Community College system.
- Login URL: https://sdccd.instructure.com (tip: bookmark this)
- Username and Password: Same as SDCCD Email
Our District uses Single Sign On (SSO) which means that faculty and students will use one login (SDCCD Email) to sign into multiple systems. (PeopleSoft still has its own login credentials but is expected to move to single sign on at some point in the future.)

Canvas Accounts & Teaching Shells
- All Mesa faculty automatically get a Canvas account once you are assigned to teach a course in the District schedule. You do not need to request a Canvas account.
- You will automatically receive a teaching shell for each section you are assigned to teach in the District schedule. You do not need to request teaching shells for your courses.
To Properly Save Your Work, Use a Development Shell
Faculty are strongly encouraged to develop their content in a development shell (or by updating a shell from a previous semester), and then transfer the content to the actual teaching shell when the class is about to begin. If a course gets cancelled due to low enrollment, or if there's an error in the CRN (which is fixed by deleting the current shell and creating a new one), all updates made within the teaching shell will be lost!

Preparing to Import into a New Canvas Shell
You can copy a past course or development shell into a new teaching shell using the "Import Course Content" link on the "Settings" page of the new Canvas shell. (If you have a course from a previous institution you can export it as a file and then import it into your new course. If you have a development shell or a past course in your current Canvas account, you can copy it directly into the teaching shell without downloading anything.)
