Evaluating Websites With Lateral Reading

Don't Read Vertically, Read Laterally!

Do you know how to evaluate websites for credible and authoritative content? Perhaps you were taught to scroll up and down the web page and search for content that would give you clues as to its scholarly credibility. Professional fact checkers use another technique, it's called "lateral reading" and it is very effective for learning if a website is credible and authoritative.

Now that you have found a credible website it is time to look a little deeper at your results. On the next page you will learn about the SIFT method of researching a website for it's usefulness in your research.
