Overview

Adhere to common sense logic and the following information to get ready for volunteering in the garden.

What to Wear

  1. A face mask.
  2. Closed-toe shoes are required.
  3. Long pants are strongly recommended.
  4. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

What to Bring

  1. A hat
  2. Sunscreen
  3. Water: You will not be able to refill your water bottles on campus. It's difficult to know how much water you should bring because it depends on a lot of factors (including your body weight, exertion level, and outdoor temperature). One thing you can do is to be sure to drink water prior to arriving to the garden. As a general guideline, you should bring between 30 ounces of water (4 cups) to 72 ounces of water (9 cups) for a three hour volunteer shift.
  4. Food: Bring snacks/lunch. Nobody likes a "hangry" volunteer!

If you have the following, you may bring them:

  1. Clean work gloves or gardening gloves.
  2. Clean gardening tools/shovels. These will be marked with tape upon arrival.

If you don't have these items, no worries. They will be provided to volunteers.
