Committee Chair Responsibilities
Hello Academic Senate Committee Chairs! Below is information that may help you with smoothly facilitating meetings. Please reach out to the Academic Senate Exec team if you have suggestions on how we can better support you.
First Committee Meeting
- Confirm committee membership.
- Who is continuing?
- Who is leaving?
- Are there any additional membership needs for the academic year?
- Submit a request for membership through the Academic Senate Committee Call Out Form (LINK), if needed.
- Important Note: Committee members need to be reappointed every two years. If you have committee members that have served for two years, then submit a call out through the Academic Senate Committee Call Out Form (LINK) and let the continuing committee members know that they need to reapply and be reappointed.
- Review your charge with the committee.
- Are there any updates needed? If so, revise the charge and make a Request Academic Senate Agenda (LINK) be added for review and approval.
- Review membership responsibilities and meeting expectations
- Shared governance: Role in representing Academic Senate on committee
- Robert’s Rules & Brown Act
- Attendance
- Proxies
- Conveying information and feedback to/from constituents
