Module Definitions

Here are some key definitions that will be referenced in this module.

Zoom: District supported tool to record, share, and hold live meetings with students and other SDCCD staff and faculty
Zoom web portal: Zoom web portal is where you can manage Zoom Room settings
Gallery view: Gallery view lets you see thumbnail displays of participants, in a grid pattern, which expands and contracts as participants join and leave the meeting.
Immersive View: Recreate the feel of your class or conference room by placing up to 25 video participants onto a single virtual background with Immersive View.
Multi-spotlight: Pin Video feature allows you to disable the active speaker view and view only the pinned videos in your individual view. With multi-pinning, hosts can pin up to nine other students on-screen in their custom personal view. Students also are able to pin up to nine other videos with the teacher’s permission.
Focus Mode: This feature allows only the host to see participants’ videos, profile pictures, and shared screens. In Focus Mode, students will only be able to see the teacher, allowing them to feel comfortable in their own environment and be free from distractions. This mode is also ideal for proctoring exams.
Background: Background image that sits behind you, the facilitator
Poll: Survey that can be used during class
Nonverbal feedback: Students can virtually raise their hand, indicate “Yes” or “No” next to their name, or request that you speed up or slow down your lesson, without disrupting the rest of the class. These types of nonverbal feedback are persistent, meaning they’ll appear on the student’s video until you clear it.
