Slide Design - Slide Design Theme Limitations

Any Limitations to Using Slide Design Themes?

Can you guess what the limitations are, if any, when applying pre-made Slide Design Themes? Here's a clue:

The phrase, "Don't worry if plan A fails, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet" is on two speech bubbles. One speech bubble has a poor contrast between the text and colored background. The other speech bubble has a high contrast between the text and colored background.

If you guessed color contrast, you are correct. Using color is an excellent way to quickly visualize material, distinguish foreground from background, and emphasize the importance of something. But not all color combinations are created equal.

For example:

  • the yellow text on a white background, Yellow on white  creates very "low contrast" that is difficult to read.
  • White text on a black background, White on black, is a "high contrast" example.

Black text on white background is the default, and most commonly used, form of text color contrast. Stay tuned, there is more to come on color contrast later in the course.
