What is Reading Order?
Reading order is the order in which the content is organized in a logical manner. Screen reading software will announce the content on the slide based on the slide's reading order.
Why Should We Review Reading Order?
If you use a Slide Layout, you're probably safe in assuming the reading order of your content will follow a logical progression.
However, if you decide to use a blank slide, or if you delete or rearrange placeholders on a Slide Layout, a screen reader will read your content based on the order you have placed the objects on the slide. In this case, it is likely that the reading order would sound jumbled. Imagine how confusing this might be for a student who relies on assistive technology. Additionally, any conversion of the PowerPoint into an alternate format will also be affected by the incorrect reading order. Play it safe and review the reading order.
