Ways to Welcome

Let's start by sharing ways that you are already doing this in your classes. What are you already doing prior to the course starting and/or during those first couple days of the course to welcome students to you course?

This page is set to by editable by everyone, so you should see an "Edit" button allowing you to add to our list below. Tell us one current practice you have for welcoming students to your course.

I teach online
Before I publish on canvas and class starts I send out a welcoming announcement and explain which tabs we will be using on canvas. I then insure all the students that I will be publishing soon with their first assignment. I ask them to set up a YouTube account before class starts.

I also teach online.  I also send a Welcome Announcement and create an Introductory Video.  I review the syllabus in the video and I go through the course layout.  I explain how NOT to enter/approach the course.  I also go through a 1 page document that gives an overview of Sociology.

I sent out a welcome email, with clear instructions about the first week of the classes, instructions to login to canvas and link to the liquid syllabus.

I send out a welcome letter and publish the module and the first assignments, i.e. a biographie, a question why they study German, however it is optional to respond to it before the official starting date of the course.
