Please note that there are different tabs on this page. Use the different tabs to explore the various topics.
Getting a Zoom Account
All California Community College (CCC) faculty get free Zoom Licensed accounts. The licensed account gives you unlimited meeting time instead of the 40 minute time restriction with the free account.
Get your Zoom Licensed account @ ConferZoom.org Links to an external site. and click the "Sign Up" button. Within minutes you'll receive an email to finish account activation and setup. Your students do not need Zoom accounts in order to join your Zoom sessions.
Once you've activated your account, faculty can login in at the ConferZoom homepage (http://conferzoom.org Links to an external site.). The first time you join or host a meeting from your computer, the ConferZoom application downloads to your desktop. This is a faster option available to hosts for starting and joining meetings.
What Kind of Account Do I Have?
One way to find know is whether or not your Zoom meetings that you host are getting cutoff at 40 minutes. If they are, you have the Zoom Basic account, and you need to upgrade to get the time limit lifted. If you aren't sure what kind of Zoom account you have, login to Zoom and click on your profile picture in the top right corner.
Upgrading Zoom from Basic to Licensed
If you find that you have a Basic account, you'll need to get your account upgraded to a Licensed account by emailing CCC TechConnect, the folks who administer our ConferZoom accounts for the CCC system.
Katie & Todd at the LOFT do not have any administrator access to ConferZoom to upgrade your account for you. Sorry!
Using Zoom with Canvas
Option 1
Here is the keep-it-simple approach to using Zoom inside your Canvas course:
Katie recorded an update to this video where she also shows how to add the link to your Zoom room to the Canvas Course Navigation menu. Here's the link to that version: Katie's Updated Zoom in Canvas video. Links to an external site.
Option 2
Here's how to use Zoom via the ConferZoom link in your Canvas course menu, giving you more functionality but also requiring account authorization between your Canvas account and your ConferZoom accounts.
Safety in Zoom
Be aware of the Safety options in Zoom prior to meeting time. One of the best ways to keep your meeting safe is to not share the Zoom meeting IDs over social media. Here are additional resources for keeping Zoom-bombers out of your course.
Recording, Captions, and Reports
Recording
There are two options for locations for your Zoom Recordings. To take advantage of the Zoom automatic transcription of your captions, we recommend that you update your Settings to "Cloud Recording." Here's a Zoom screenshot for Local vs. Cloud recording while signed into my account on ConferZoom.org Links to an external site. This selection will need to be made prior to hosting the session.

Katie's Video on finding Zoom Recordings Links to an external site. will show you where to find the Zoom Recording as well as one way for you to share the link with your students in Canvas.
Zoom Captions
Students' interpreters and captioners can join Zoom sessions. Here is a resource from the DSPS office with Guidance for Supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students in Online. Download Guidance for Supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students in Online. You can also request live captioning services by emailing CCC TechConnect 5 business days in advance of the scheduled session.
Record your session to the cloud where it will be auto-transcribed for you. [Be sure to select the Audio Transcript checkbox in your Settings.] Links to an external site. Then you can edit captions where necessary, and provide the recording link to students.
There's a new live auto-captioning feature in Zoom. When you're in your meeting, be sure to click Live Transcript > Enable Auto-Transcription. This will provide attendees with the option of enabling an auto-transcription of the audio. There's also a button that participants can use to anonymously request that you enable live transcription. So that's an anonymous way that students can ask you to click that Enable Auto-Transcription feature. For more information see Zoom's guide on Enabling and managing closed captioning and live transcription. Links to an external site.
